My child IS watching me

As a parent I often wonder how much my children have learned from me...not so much what I've said to them but what they've observed about me. This past weekend, my husband and I experienced something with our youngest son, and the Lord used this experience to once again remind that my children are watching me. What I've learned having raised my oldest son who is now a grown man, and what I see now in my youngest son who just turned 10 is that they have both developed standards in life based off of some of the things I've said to them, but more so based off of what they've seen me do. Anyone who knows me knows that it gives me great joy to give....I'm a giver! I love giving and I love seeing the joy on other's faces who are on the receiving end.

We attended a birthday party this past weekend and my youngest son wanted to make sure he had a gift to give and he was careful to pick out something he thought the person would like. Earlier that day, he expressed to me that he wanted to give away two of his v-bucks cards (for Fortnite in case you're wondering) that he received for his birthday a couple of weeks ago, to two of his cousins. Later that same day, we visited the Lego store and he was adamant about purchasing something small for his dad and I. Granted we both told him that he didn't have to, but He replied to us with the most sincere look on his face and said "But I really want to get something for the both of you." THIS melted my heart. I explained to my husband "He can't help it...It's in his nature to give...this is who he is." In that moment the Lord allowed me to see that my child is watching me. As parents, we are sowing seeds in the lives of our children with the words we say as well as by our actions. This was humbling for me because it reminds me of the importance of making sure I'm intentional about living a life that brings Glory to God because this is what I want for my children. I want them to see my relationship with God and desire to have their own personal relationship with Him. I want them to see me praying and studying the Word of God so they too will understand how essential it is to spend time in prayer and in the Word. I want them to see how important it is to be kind and loving towards others so they will desire to do that as well...my children are watching me. I want them to see the Spirit of God at work in me. Read Proverbs 22:6
